Understanding Your EDI Compliance Scorecard
Your EDI compliance scorecard is one of the most important documents in your retailer relationship — and many suppliers don’t check it until there’s a problem. Here’s how to read it and what to watch for.
Common Scorecard Metrics
ASN Compliance Rate
The percentage of shipments with a valid, timely 856 ASN. Most retailers require 95–99%+ compliance.
ASN Accuracy Rate
The percentage of ASNs that exactly match the physical shipment. Discrepancies trigger shrink chargebacks.
PO Acknowledgment Rate
The percentage of 850s acknowledged with an 855 within the retailer’s required window.
Invoice Accuracy Rate
The percentage of 810 invoices that match the original PO without discrepancies.
Label Quality Score
Some retailers track the percentage of shipments with scannable, compliant GS1-128 labels.
What Low Scores Cost You
Compliance scores below threshold typically result in:
- Automatic chargeback deductions (1–3% of invoice value)
- Enhanced scrutiny on all shipments
- Buyer review meetings
- Risk of vendor program suspension
How to Read Walmart’s Vendor Scorecard (RetailLink)
Walmart’s scorecard tracks performance by category, buyer, and time period. Pay attention to:
- ASN On-Time % by week
- ASN Item Accuracy by shipment
- Invoice Discrepancy rate
How to Improve Your Score
- Automate ASN transmission — human-generated ASNs are the #1 source of compliance failures
- Verify label quality before shipping — scan barcodes with a verification tool, not just a scanner
